Microsoft Mouse is not scrolling in Winamp, SPSS and other software

OK, there are several software (compatible with Micorosft Vista) which are not possible to use with Microsoft Mouse, because the "Smooth Scrolling" is doing everything else than smoothly working. So far I have found problems with WinAmp and SPSS 17. Vertical scroll UP is working, but if you scroll DOWN then the wheel moves like 100000times, but it moves only for 3 lines max in the software.

I am talking here about the latest drivers 6.30.191, Microsoft Wireless 8000 (and any other Microsoft mice) and Windows Vista Business system.

The only workaround I have been able to find at forums is:
1) Uninstall the Stupid Intellipoint Software
2) Delete all the mouses (press DELETE) in system devices (check the delete also the drivers).
3) You will be told to restart. Do that.
4) Go to microsoft.com/hardware site, where you download again the stupid IntelliPoint 6.3 Software (DO NOT OPEN THE EXE FILE!!!) just unzip that (if you use Total Commander then press alt+F9, if you do not, then unzipp via WinZip or WinRar).
5) then go to the list of devices, find the "mouse", press to update the drivers and manually find the unzipped folder. Vista will find the right driver and install.
6) you will be (probably) again told to restart. Do that.
7) Now in Control Panels if you click on Mouse, you will see that the "special Intellimouse" function is gone, no smooth scrolling. Just the number of lines you want to scroll up or down. (or horizontally as well).
8) Voila, you can scroll in all software in which it was unable to do beforehand - such as Winamp or SPSS.

Credit goes to the guy on the internet, who found this.
If you start to cry, that the buttons are now not working (on your mouse), then throw the Microsoft Mouse to the garbage bin and buy one which is able to PERFORM WELL (that means no Microsoft hardware).

My solution is to tell to the special buttons to fuck-off, because I love on Microsoft Mice that they are fucking big and comfy (I am no dwarf, so I have big hands). And scrolling is the most important thing on the mouse so... I can live just with two buttons and scrolling wheel on a very expensive laser wireless 4buttons+wheel mouse :o)).

Merry X-Mass

I'm glad that I have (apart from Samuel Huntington and Harold Pinter) survived the Christmas Eve.

Future of printed media

Today I was at sort of a café intellectuals session, where was among others Karel Hvížďala whom I am kinda of respecting and three other guys who were discussing the future of printed media.

But!!! None has formulated such a simple thought as:

1) if in the Czech Republic is the sold circulation 80 - 120 000 copies, which can provide that the printed daily press can survive economically (the best have nowadays around 400 000, but just for paying the inputs it is said around 80 000 - 120 000 copies are the lowest circulation for possible survival)

and

2) the printed media will never stop to exist (their importance will seize down, but all the prior media has survived even with the new technological inventions i.e. the new media)

then

3) what is actually gonna be the level of circulation of newspapers, when Internet will take over. 20 - 30 000 copies for one newspapers? Or even smaller number?

and if that is true, then

4) What would the publishing houses have to do, that they can survive with such low circulation? Fire the staff? Bring the price of a issue so up, that you actually pay for the luxury of reading a printed press? Aim only for such rich elites who can have such luxury? Or will they really close down the businesses and will they be only online?

God knows, but what scholars should really study is the level of the circulation of the press that will be the level upon which the decline stops and will never go lower - such as that internet will have 60 %, TV will have 35 %, magazines will have 4 % and daily newspapers 1 % of market in Czech Republic, which means lets say ballpark figure sold circulation around 10 000 of prints per day? That is what they should really try to find.

But chatting and showing off how clever I am because I have read this and that, is maybe more fun than this...

Reasons for Satan Klaus

While in the US they have Santa Claus (whom I enjoy calling for fun Satan Klaus, because this fella is somehow invading my country since 1989 in the same way as the Father Frost from Russia was invading my country in 1948-1989), here in Europe we have lots of different ways how to call the guy who brings you presents.

French are always an exception and have to be somehow special (whole world has NATO, french have OTAN etc.), so their Papa Noel can kiss my shiny metal ass, but in Czech Republic and also in Germany the presents are given to kids by infant Jesus, Christkind, Ježíšek (in Czech).

And here the reasons for Satan Klaus:

1) at certain age kids stop to believe in Santa and they found out, that the presents are given to them by their parents, therefore they say "I dont believe in Santa." Now imagine the USA would have little/infant Jesus as we in Europe have and say "I dont believe in Jesus", therefore this would be for them herecy (Czech republic has 80 % of atheists, so we dont have such problem). I am not aware of a fact how Germans deal with this, is the Christ child the same important guy as the grown-up guy? Was Jesus doing miracles at the age of 7? Probably not.

2) talking about the coca-cola symbol of Santa to depict the commodification of the holy time of Christmas is just waste of time, so just mentioning it.

OK, enjoy the advent time and Happy X-mass for all! Even if you have various kinds of names how to call the guy and try hard not to have a Santa ruling your country if it is not part of your traditions. :o)
